Privacy Policy
Effective: August 3, 2026
The short version:
- All your data (runs, routes, preferences) stays on your device
- There is no LoopRun server, no cloud sync, no account
- Location and health data are accessed only with your permission, only to make the app work
- No analytics, no ads, no profiling, no tracking
- A few third-party services receive your location to generate routes and display maps
What data LoopRun accesses
Location (with your permission)
LoopRun requests access to your precise location to:
- Generate loop running routes starting from where you are
- Track your run in real time, including when the app is in the background
- Display your position on the map
Location data is stored locally on your device as part of your run history. It is never uploaded to a LoopRun server because there isn't one.
Health and fitness data (with your permission)
If you enable HealthKit integration, LoopRun:
- Writes completed workouts to Apple Health (distance, duration, route, estimated calories)
- Reads your body mass from Apple Health to estimate calorie burn (defaults to 70 kg if unavailable)
Health data is used solely to provide fitness features within LoopRun. It is never used for marketing, advertising, or data mining. You can revoke HealthKit access at any time in your device Settings.
Photos (with your permission)
You can optionally pick a profile photo from your library. It's stored locally on your device as a JPEG. It never leaves your device.
Locally stored data
LoopRun stores the following on your device only:
- Run history: date, distance, duration, pace, elevation, GPS track, splits
- Preferences: distance unit, voice cues, auto-pause, map style, accent colour
- Profile: display name (you choose this, defaults to "Runner")
This data is not accessible to LoopRun or any third party. It lives in your device's app sandbox.
Third-party services
LoopRun does not have its own backend. However, it communicates with the following services to provide core functionality:
| Service | What it receives | Why |
|---|---|---|
| GraphHopper | Your GPS coordinates, desired distance | Calculates loop routes |
| Overpass API | Approximate location, search radius | Finds scenic points of interest |
| CARTO / Esri | Viewport coordinates (standard tile requests) | Renders map tiles |
| Apple (StoreKit) | Standard purchase flow | Processes subscriptions |
| Apple (HealthKit) | Workout data you choose to sync | Stays in Apple's ecosystem on-device |
What LoopRun does not do
- Collect your name, email, or any contact information
- Create user accounts or require sign-in
- Use analytics, crash reporting, or telemetry
- Display advertisements
- Track you across apps or websites
- Sell, rent, or share your personal data
- Store any of your data on external servers
Data retention
All data is stored locally on your device, so you control retention. Delete a run from the app and it's gone. Delete the app and all data is removed with it. There are no backups on our end because there is no "our end."
Your rights
You have full control over your data through your device settings:
- Location: Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > LoopRun
- Health: Settings > Health > Data Access & Devices > LoopRun
- Photos: Settings > Privacy & Security > Photos > LoopRun
- Everything: Delete the app. Nothing persists elsewhere.
Changes to this policy
